Christmas Cheer

Monday, December 22nd, 2003

Ah. The tingly feeling that runs down your spine as the choir bursts into descants and the brass rips through the Adeste Fideles. Sing choirs of angels, Sing in exultation, Sing all ye citizens of heaven above. Glory to God in the highest.

Hmmm. Mulled wine and mince pies.

Hmmm. the humbug is beginning to feel christmassy. For the right reasons! :)

I, the humbug

Thursday, December 11th, 2003

Yeah, I am the humbug, or at least one of probably lots. it’s not that I don’t like christmas. It’s just that Christmas has been hijacked.

Hark the merry cashtills ring
Credit cards for every thing
pure wool skirts we bought at marks
space war toys with flashing sparks.
…(a carol for consumerism)
There is more but I don’t remember it, or who wrote it.

Giggley Holly-Cracker might have been my name had I been an elf. According to BBC Shropshire!

See why I humbug?

However I do think that some aspects of christmas are worth keeping and extolling.

  • Sharing presents/food/company/warm friendship
  • A little reminder of the birth of someone who – whether you like it or not, or believe it or not – has certainly changed the world you are living in.
  • Mulled Wine
