Cross Loop – seems to work.

Tuesday, May 26th, 2009

Once I come out as being a bit of a computer boff, knowing something about computers seems to attract people.  Now, I am not being grumpy, after all I love to help people, and provide streamlined solutions.  To that end I have been looking for an uber simple way of doing some screen sharing.  At work we use some handy full featured tools that make it dead easy.  At home, if I want to use the same tool, naturally, I have to pay for it. (Ok so I did use the work tool for one non work support session, but that was when I wanted to explore the capabilities of the tool)

Role up CrossLoop. This is basically a repackaged TightVNC server/client.  The website suggests you find a helper, share that screen with the helper, then get your problem fixed.  This intrigues me – support in the cloud – and maybe I can even sell my spare support time :) .

Anyway, have just installed and test run with my ever patient beautiful assistant, and it seems to work pretty effortlessly. I might even set myself up as a helper and get paid for it… might…
