WikiSeek – a critique

WikiSeek is billed as a better way to search Wikipedia. As someone who never uses the Wikipedia search, in favour of a Google search where results are limited by “site:” I thought this may be worth looking at.

WikiSeek also suggest that they might be an “authoritative source of information less subject to spam and SEO schemes.” (Wikiseek about)

However, a search for a well known drug commonly appearing in spam (and beginning with P), results appear for external links to what can only be described as spam and SEO schemes! Infact these results do not seem to appear in the external links section of the wikipedia article, and as Paul points out, WikiSeek are using highlighting that many users will associate with Google’s sponsored results, and may therefore ignore.

hmmm.
