Talis release APIs
I have been sitting on my hands for a while now, waiting to say something about Talis’ APIs for their platform. They have finally been released!
When I get a spare moment I will have to see what I can come up with, although being somewhat more of a hacker than a programmer (I have to refer to copius reference materials!) it may take some time.
Anyway, this is exciting news, but I have to point out what might be a limitation at the moment (although I sincerely hope that it could be changed in the future). There is no JSON output for any of the service URIs apart from the holdings lookup, and indeed no (documented) output option at all.
I only recently discovered JSON, and am beginning to wish I had known about it earlier. With the holdings data, I can easily create an object because of the JSON output, but with all the other services, I will have to ‘manually’ parse the xml tree to get at the information that I want.
But all in all, a very positive step, and I look forward to more evidence of the creativity that I know is bubbling away already.
