RLG to combine with OCLC
RLG to combine with OCLC [OCLC]
RLG’s online products and services would be integrated with OCLC service offerings as appropriate. The potential for increased services and consolidation of costs would result in overall savings. For example, RLIN, the RLG Union Catalog, would be integrated into WorldCat, delivering economies of scale and reach that would benefit members of both RLG and OCLC.
So, what is to happen to RedLightGreen? Is it to be subsumed into the Wolrdcat Beast? I tried to register an account on RLG, but couldn’t find a link anywhere. is that the beginning of the end?
I’m also curious to know what will happen to RLG’s use of the Talis Silkworm directory now that OCLC are in control? Will OCLC want to use it too?

I know our UI folks struggled with the “register an account” workflow for a while and it went through a number of iterations. Currently, you click on “sign in” in the upper right and enter your email address of choice. (Don’t choose blah at blah dot com because someone else chose that with out a password to protect ti.)
If your address isn’t in the system, the system asks you for a few preference and demographic details. Last time i ran stats (some years ago, really), 50% were female, 30% were male, and 20% didn’t say.
Anyhow, not a beginning of the end at all.
